Kuhn Symposium
To celebrate
the 90th birthday of our friend and mentor
Hans Kuhn, we would like
to invite you to a most special symposium that highlights the scientific seeds
that Hans Kuhn planted in his pioneering career as molecular engineer.
Professor Hans Kuhn studied chemistry at the ETH Zürich, and earning his PhD in Basel with the polymer chemist Prof Werner Kuhn, Hans Kuhn habilitated in 1946. From 1946 until 1947 he worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Prof Linus Pauling at CalTech in Pasadena, and then became Professor at the University of Basel in 1951. Soon thereafter in 1953, he got a "Ruf" from the Philipps University of Marburg where he became the Director of the Institute of Physical Chemistry. In 1970, he moved further north to Göttingen, where he became the Director of the Department of 'Molecular Systems Assembly' at the newly founded Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (Karl Friedrich Bonhoeffer Institute) until his retirement in 1985.
He conducted pioneering work in molecular self-assembly, energy transfer processes, molecular electronics and molecular evolution. The symposium will highlight the scientific frontiers that have grown from those seeds.
Please follow the links to the scientific agenda, the program for our social events, the registration form and our contact information. Since the community that Hans Kuhn has touched is far larger than the contacts we have gathered, please forward this to anybody who might be interested joining the event and celebrations.
Confirmation of your participation is greatly appreciated.
I am very excited to celebrate this event with Hans Kuhn and all of you. Looking forward to seeing you all in December!
Sincerely,
Viola Vogel
